Duos en Résonances is an exhibition that aims to strengthen the dialogue between craft and design.

From from molded glass wafers to embroidery based on a computer-generated pattern. The exhibition Duos and Résonances features the work of 6 designers and 6 artisans.

Duos en Résonances is a project of Wallonie Design created in 2017, supported by the Sofina&Boël Fund for Training and Talent since 2020. For six months, six duos of craft artists and designers work on the development of a joint project or idea. The designer gets to work directly with an expert in materials and techniques. In turn, the artisan discovers a different approach or working method that challenges him to step outside his daily professional practice. From December 6 to February 22, the results of the six collaborations will be exhibited to the general public at MAD Brussels.

AN EXHIBITION WITH

Angel Barrero & Julien Renault

Angel Barerro, a plasterer, and Julien Renault, a product designer, explore marbled plaster techniques applied to free forms. By breaking away from traditional practices, they offer a fresh perspective on a meticulous craft rooted in the 16th century.

Kenny Damian & Flora Miranda

The duo Kenny Damian and Flora Miranda combine their ideas as an embroiderer and a fashion designer respectively. This collaboration between the art of embroidery and fashion blends technology of computer-generated patterns with traditional textile art to create visually striking works.

Étienne Guillaume & Gaston Golstein

This dynamic duo consists of Étienne Guillaume, raw earth specialist at Elementerre, and Gaston Golstein, industrial designer at Duplex Studio. They translate the construction technique of pisé into object production, questioning the lifecycle and end-of-life of a finished piece made from raw earth.

Frederik Rombach & Unfold

The only trio in this exhibition consists of Frederik Rombach, glassblower, and Claire Warnier and Dries Verbruggen of the design studio Unfold. Inspired by the iconic Belgian waffle, this duo casts glass wafers, playfully demonstrating how they fit together and serve as connectors between various materials.

Julien Moermans & Alice Pilastre

While Julien Moermans is a tufter, Alice Pilastre is a fashion designer. This duo investigates the lifespan of carpets and their materials. They explore how its structure evolves with use, ultimately leading to its disappearance.

John Dierickx & Frederik Delbart

John Dierickx from Studio Artglas is a specialist in stained glass, while Frederik Delbart is an industrial designer. They reinterpret the qualities of stained glass, transforming it into three-dimensional objects that uncover new perspectives and surprising angles.

SCENOGRAPHY

With the support of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, the scenography of the exhibition is entrusted to Brussels-based design studio Studio Plastique. The scenography reflects the experimental nature of Duos en Résonances, showing not only the results but also the creative process behind them. It highlights the artists' gestures, interests, and the challenges they encountered, offering a deeper insight into the products they create.
